There are many places of interest for you on the coast of Bizkaia none are more than 45 minutes from our house.

BILBAO & INLAND BISCAY

We can not take anything away from the city of Bilbao. The nerve center of our country, has a powerful element of attraction The Guggenheim Museum, and the transformation that has occurred there. Bilbao is a cheerful, bright and open city, which, in addition to its great museum, has lots of places to experience its history and gastronomic delights, as the old town with its seven streets, Santiago Cathedral, the bridge offers from which He founded the city, but also the expansion of the city and its route of modernist buildings, many sculptures that look to the future evoking our industrial past, to finish in the Azkuna Center, a meeting place for people living in Bilbao.

But Bizkaia has other places that are worthy of attention, as the Bizkaia Bridge, declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco and linking the two sides of the estuary. The Getxo side with its mansions and the marina to the Portugalete and Santurtzi side with home villas from families that founded the city of Bilbao, without losing sight of the mining area of Gallarta, and its mineral resources that were already assessed by the Romans and now, after years of mining, are flooded by water have given way to large lakes and beautiful natural walking trails. It was precisely here where the labor movement was founded.

Like before, these areas are not more than 45 minutes from Bakio, so they are perfect to explore and then return to rest with the soft whispering of the sea in the background.

OTHER  PLACES IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY

Good roads between Bakio and the A8 through the Txorierri Corridor make day trips to other parts of Euskadi easy. Though somewhat further away, but not more than 1½ hours driving. Vitoria-Gasteiz, with its cathedral and the famous «almond» or old town, Donostia-San Sebastian, a city full of incredible places, like the “Comb of the Winds”, or “La Concha”, (the shell) and of course tapas !

Try Getaria, the seaside town of Juan Sebastian Elcano , Zarautz,, Deba, Mutriko (perhaps one of the most beautiful coastal towns of Biscay), Zumaia and Hondarribi, a village nestled on the border with France that you will surely love.

And inland, Tolosa, with its famous beans or the Goierri Region, where you will discover the whole story about the famous «Idiazabal Cheese»,also Valle de Ayala and one of our most famous mountains – The Gorbea – where lives «Goddess Mairuelegorreta», Known as the «Mari», Lady of Anboto and mother of Basque mythology. A protected natural area where you can marvel at such extraordinary natural wonders like the waterfall Gujuli.

On the border with Cantabria we find the Encartaciones, a cattle area that reinvents itself every day showing us important treasures such as the Cave of Pozalagua, Casa de Juntas of Abellaneda or the Pobal Foundry among others.

Surely you will not be lacking for plans of places to visit and new things to do! And have to come back and visit again.
